Alzheimer's Prevention?
About a year ago, someone was asking me about my mother. I told the woman I'd just visited her and she was not doing very well, and didn't recognize me when I visited. The woman said, "Has she not been taking the medication for Alzheimer's?" Since this young woman had no experience with the disease, she was under the impression that if my mother took a pill, her symptoms would drastically decrease and she could live a relatively normal life. If only.
This disease is mysterious--at least to me. There's no pill (that I know of) to make it go away, and it seems even difficult for doctors to explain to me. My mother is coherent one moment, completely out of it the next. But a recent article I read gives me a bit of hope for people, like me, who might have a genetic tendency to develop Alzheimer's in the future. Check it out:
